Novak Djokovic and Stanislas Wawrinka will meet in the final of the Rome Masters on Saturday. Both of their semi-final opponents were forced to retire due to injury.

Sixth seed Andy Roddick faced Wawrinka in the first semi-final of the day. Just fifteen minutes in, and trailing 0-3, 25-year-old Roddick conceded the match after finding himself unable to serve due to a back injury he picked up in the second game.

That match was followed by the second semi between Djokovic of Serbia and Radek Stepanek - who beat world number one Roger Federer earlier in the week - and this time fans were hoping to see a bit more action. They were to be disappointed. Czech national Stepanek lost the first set to Djokovic 6-0 and was trailing 1-0 in the second when he called it a day as well, apparently due to a stomach problem.

The result means that Djokovic, the third seed, and Wawrinka, the world number 24, will each be bidding to claim their maiden Rome title on Sunday.
