Among the torchbearers, Zhang Xiuyun's story is not unusual. But the work that she's doing allows her to make plenty of contributions to the city.

The city is waking up as the Sun rises from the east. But for Zhang Xiuyun, her daily job has come to an end.

Zhang has been working here in Huizhou city in South China's Guangdong Province for more than a decade. She uses her skills and sweat to try to keep the city streets clean and clear.

As a 2006 Labor Model of Guangdong Province, Zhang Xiuyun was named as a torchbearer for the Beijing Olympic Games. She still remembered the moment when she heard the word.

Zhang said, "I was so happy when I heard the news. I tried to tell all of my friends, relatives and colleagues. They all congratulated me on that."

Just like the streets she's in charge of, Zhang Xiuyun's apartment is also clean. Some of the most attractive things in her bedroom are several alarm clocks.

Zhang Xiuyun took the job 14 years ago. She's always asked herself to do her best, no matter where she was. Zhang practiced running at home, ahead of the relay. She say the honor does not belong to her alone, it belongs to all the common cleaners like her.
