Two goals in the first half have given Shandong Luneng a two-one victory against Shanghai Shenhua in the second round of the A3 Champions Cup in Jinan, Shandong province.

This is the second successive win for the Chinese Super League champions, which means they need just a draw in the next round to claim the cup title.

Shandong broke the deadlock 11 minutes into the game. Alexzandar Zivkovic made no mistake in converting a spot-kick to put his side 1-0 in front. Zheng Zhi helped his team to double the advantage 24 minutes later. Shanghai did pull one goal back eight minutes from time, but it was too little, too late. With two wins in a row, Shandong top the standings with six points.

And in an earlier clash, Japanese league champions Urawa Red Diamonds beat Seongnam Ilhwa one-nil to stay in contention.
