Spain's Rafael Nadal took on compatriot Carlos Moya in the quarter-finals as he continued his bid for a third straight French Open title at Roland Garros. The winner of that match would meet 20-year-old rising star Novak Djokovic in the semis.

Meanwhile, it was bad news all round for the remaining Chinese women's players and their mixed doubles partners.

Nadal clinches semis palce

Reigning French Open champion Rafael Nadal took on fellow countryman and 1998 French Open champion Carlos Moya in an all-Spanish clash.

Nadal began the match as the clear favourite, and it soon became clear why. The 21-year-old had a fitting reply for everything thrown at him and broke his opponent several times to seal a comfortable victory of 6-4 6-3 6-love.

The result sees the world number two remain on course to becoming the first man since Bjorn Borg in 1980 to win three successive Roland Garros titles, and is yet to drop a set at Roland Garros this year.

Djokovic sets up meet with Nadal

Nadal will meet Serbian 6th seed Novak Djokovic who overpowered Russian outsider Igor Andreev. Andreev, the only unseeded player in the French Open quarter-finals, had eliminated third seed Andy Roddick and 16th seed Marcos Baghdatis.

But his unexpected run was stopped by 20-year-old Djokovic as the Serbian survived a late scare to close out the match 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 to progress to the semi-finals.

Chinese players all out in mixed doubles

Over in the mixed doubles court, Chinese players suffered a double blow. Yan Zi and partner Mark Knowles of Bahamas were seeded 5th. Their run at Roland Garros was stopped by their 6th seeded opponents Katarina Srebotnik and Nenad Zimonjic 6-3, 6-4.

Meanwhile, Olympic doubles champion Sun Tiantian and Julian Knowle of Austria lost to Nathalie Dechy and Andy Ram in straight sets.

Zhou Yimiao stopped before girls singles quarters

In the juniors event, Chinese player Zhou Yimiao failed to maintain her good form and missed out on the chance to enter the quarter-finals.
