Despite a tough match, defending champ Rafael Nadal has booked his place in the quarter-finals by beating Lleyton Hewitt.

Over in the mixed doubles, Chinese player Yan Zi and Mark Knowles of the Bahamas have defeated Chia-Jung Chuang of Chinese Taipei and Australian player Todd Perry to also make it into the semifinals.

Nadal to meet Moya in quarterfinals

Defending French Open champion Rafael Nadal faced a tough fourth round test, taking on Lleyton Hewitt on Monday. The number two seed underlined his dominance on the surface to take the first set 6-3.

Hewitt, the number 14 seed, appeared helpless in the second set as Nadal continued to pick apart his service game and take a two-set lead.

However, the determined Aussie matched his in-form opponent for the majority of the third set. The match appeared to be heading to a conclusion when Nadal broke for a 6-5 lead, but Hewitt responded with a break of his own and forced a tiebreaker.

Nadal raised his game from 2-0 and 4-2 down though, fighting back to take the tiebreaker and win the match 6-3, 6-1, 7-6.

Nadal will next face his compatriot, Carlos Moya in the quarter-finals, after the former French Open champion defeated Jonas Bjorkman 7-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Yan Zi and Mark Knowles through to semis

In the mixed doubles, Yan Zi of China and Mark Knowles of the Bahamas took on Chia-Jung Chuang of Chinese Taipei and Australian Todd Perry.

Although Yan Zi and her partner were broken twice and made three double faults at the beginning of the match, the two finally won the match 6-4, 7-5 to enter the semifinals.

This is also the best result that Yan Zi has ever achieved in the mixed doubles of a Grand Slam.

Zhou Yimiao through to girl's singles 2nd round

The girl's singles first round saw young Chinese player Zhou Yimiao defeat Julia Cohen of the United States 7-5, 6-2 to make it into the next round.
