World record holder Liu Xiang of China won the 110 hurdles on Saturday, at the Reebok Grand Prix in Randall's Island in New York. Xiang came from behind to beat Terrence Trammell with a time of 12.92 seconds.

Liu Xiang was the center of attention in the men's 110-meter hurdles.

The 2004 Olympic Gold medalist and world record holder had to stay patient through two false starts.

The first false start was charged to the entire field. But Dominique Arnold was held responsible for the second and was disqualified.

Liu Xiang got out slowly from the blocks and trailed Terrence Trammell until the ninth hurdle. That was when he took over, finishing in 12.92 seconds.

Trammell finished second, with a time of 12.95.

Liu Xiang said, "I am very happy about the result, considering that I was still coping with jetlag. I told myself not to be outrun by Terrence, for he was very fast most of the time. But I was faster in the end. This was an opportunity for me to learn and grow. I tried my best, and I think that was good enough."

Liu Xiang's 12.92 seconds had broken Allan Johnson's record of 13.03 seconds. It was also the fourth time that Liu Xiang has made the race within 12.93 seconds.
