Fernando Alonso held off a challenge by team-mate Lewis Hamilton to win the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday for the second year in a row.

The Mclaren drivers got away cleanly in Sunday's race, and were closely matched in the opening laps. Alonso established an advantage after 18 laps and extended his lead to more than 10 seconds after lap 51. The two-time world champion claimed the title in a time of 1 hour 40 minutes and 29.329 seconds. He and Hamilton are now level on 38 points at the top of the driver standings. Ferrari's Felipe Massa trails in third place.
