Heikki Kovalainen looks ahead to Spanish GP

In replacing world champion Fernando Alonso among the Renault driver line-up, Heikki Kovalainen joined a team that had become accustomed to success. However, he arrived just as the French manufacturer found itself unable to provide a car capable of matching their main rivals - namely McLaren and Ferrari.

There have, though, been signs of improvement since then. The teams have been testing at the Circuit de Catalunya since the start of May.

Heikki Kovalainen said, "Well, the main focus was obviously to improve our package, to try and bring in some new parts for the car and just carry on with the normal development, like we always do with our cars."

The Circuit de Catalunya is also renowned for being one of the most challenging tracks on the F1 calendar and Kovalainen says that the drivers will need to take a little more care on the new surface.
