Chinese badminton players have powered into the last eight at the China open in Guangzhou, Guangdong province after Thursday's clashes. In men's singles, Chen Hong and Bao Chunlai are through to the last eight. Zhang Ning and Zhu Lin are also through in women's singles. Meanwhile, Olympic champions Gao Ling and Zhang Jun booked their places in the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles.

Veteran Chen Hong faced Japanese Shoji Sato and Chen Hong took the lead from the beginning, but the Japanese bounced back to tie the score at 18. Chen Hong kept his dominance with his experience to end the first game 21-19.

In the second game, Chen Hong was dominant and sealed the victory without leaving any opportunities to his opponent. The win helped him get a spot in the last eight.

Bao Chunlai met Chinese Hong Kong's Agus Hariyanto. Bao Chunlai showed his skill to grab the first game 21-9. The Hong kong player had to default due to injury in the second game, so Bao Chunlai booked another ticket for China in the last eight.

Meanwhile, Chen Jin beat Malaysian Kuan Beng Hong. Lin Dan and Chen Yu also made it through to the quarter-finals.
