Using machine guns and grenades, the attackers destroyed three of the four police vehicles, which were traveling from Chechnya as part of a joint anti-terrorism operation. While violence has largely died down in Chechnya, an Islamic insurgency mounts almost daily attacks in other provinces of the North Caucasus.
