Rainstorms continue to pound central and eastern parts of China, in particular, the provinces of Hunan and Jiangxi.
China's Ministry of Civil Affairs has initiated the level-four emergency response plan, and has sent task forces to affected areas. Heavy downpours hit eastern parts of Jiangxi Province, with Chongyi county experiencing the heaviest rainfall of 409 millimeters.
Torrential rains killed eight and forced the relocation of 140-thousand in the central province of Hunan. Parts of Hunan received more than 200 millimeters of precipitation. Meanwhile, water levels in many rivers and dams are rising to dangerous levels.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture has asked the local departments to take preventative measures to minimize losses. North China, currently baking in a heat wave will see cooler temperatures and is now bracing for rainfall.
