The presidents of nations of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas have met for an emergency meeting in the Nicaraguan capital of Managua.
They agreed to withdraw their ambassadors from Honduras and are also calling on nations on the continent to act against the coup plotters.
In a declaration read to the press by Ecuador's Foreign Minister, Fander Falconi, the leaders said the ambassadors would stay away until President Manuel Zelaya's government is reinstalled.
Fander Falconi, Ecoadorian Foreign Minister, said, "We, the member countries of ALBA have decided to withdraw our ambassadors from Honduras and leave the minimum diplomatic representation in Tegucigalpa until the legitimate government of Manuel Zelaya is fully restored. Similarly, we recognize the personnel assigned by President Zelaya as the sole diplomatic representation in our countries."
The exiled President of Honduras was also present at the meeting.
