For decades, Olympic theme songs have been regarded as a way to promote both the Games and the host country. CCTV reporter Mao Xuzhi discovers how ready Beijing is to present the world its 2008 Olympic theme song, and how music producers and singers decide on "the song."
"Hand in Hand" is the theme song of the 1988 Seoul Olympics. The catchy rhythm and lyrics boosted South Korea's profile almost overnight. Despite being almost 20 years old, the song remains fresh in many peoples' memories.
Since the first Olympic Games in Athens in 1896, music has been playing a big role in the Games. Some say it provides sports with direct support. Some others believe music is an indispensable part to celebrate the games in a highly emotional way. And for the host countries, the theme songs are becoming the best way to promote themselves to the world.
