Kalkot Mataskelekele, President of the Republic of Vanuatu

Vanuatu is in the South-west Pacific, east of Australia. It consists of approximately 83 islands. Ninety-five per cent of its population of over 200,000 are indigenous people known as "Ni-Vanuatu", however, the tiny nation boasts 113 different languages with innumerable dialects.

Vanuatu became independent in 1980 following 74 years of joint rule under Britain and France.
