Intro:

In an age of consumerism, people seem to have more to live on but less to live for. Buddhism is one popular religious force that helps upgrade one's moral standard and strengthen social cohesion. It also calls for strict self-discipline.

Buddhism is perhaps the most practiced religion in Asia and among Asians throughout the world. One important virtue in the Buddhist teaching is non-violence.

Chinese culture is composed of three major parts: Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. But never before in the Chinese history have we had any major religious confrontations despite numerous farmers' uprisings.

What happened in Tibet recently and especially attacks against Chinese embassy by overseas Tibetans prove that those die-hard pro-secession followers of the Dalai Lama begin to get violent in raising their political demands. And they have succeeded in capturing world attention before the summer Olympic Games.

To take a closer look at the teaching and behavior of a Buddhist monks and perhaps that of a Tibetan lama, we are honored today to be joined here by Mr. Phallop Thaiarry, from Thailand. He is the secretary-General of the World Fellowship of Buddhists
