Introduction:
Today we focus on the sensational and ideologically charged boycott against the Beijing Olympic Games.
Mr. Steven Spielberg, the Hollywood movie director, quit his job as the senior artistic advisor to the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympic Games. He cited the what he calls China's lackluster performance over Darfur in Sudan as the reason for his resignation.
Mr. Jacque Rogge, chairman of the IOC, said, however, that the IOC should not be used as a political organization to solve global political issues.
US President George W Bush said that he would come to attend the opening ceremony.
The EU and British authorities have both shared the same position and called for separating politics from the Olympic Movement.
