With the rise of China鈥檚 economy in recent years comes the remarkable improvement of Sino-EU relations. In fact, the European Union has become the biggest trading partner of China and China the second biggest of the EU. Politically this honeymoon year is widely viewed as an effort to construct a multilateral international order. But economically, despite the enormous trade volume and huge investment here in China, the EU refuses to give a full blown market economy status and neither is it ready to lift the 15-year old arms embargo.
Will the just-concluded visit by Premier Wen Jiabao to the Netherlands and the seventh Sino-EU business summit meeting brings the bilateral relations to a new height? How shall we examine the opportunities and challenges for the two sides?
