"Place-Hampi" immerses viewers into a 360-degree digital
re-creation of the Hampi UNESCO World Heritage site in
India.

John Fritz, archaeologist, said, "The pictures, the graphics, are amazing images of the site. Both the flat images and the three-dimensional projections give you a really good insight into the site I think."

The exhibition is populated with images of Hindu gods, and research is under way to allow viewers to interact with the virtual characters.

Archaeologists say the interactive exhibition signals the beginning of a new generation of 'virtual heritage', which lets viewers decide how their experience with history transpires.

Project Hampi was commissioned by the French Government and will also tour major museums and festivals in Europe and Asia over the next two years.
