While it seems every industry fell victim to the credit crunch in 2008, the fashion world is never short of glitz and glamor, ablaze with new ideas and creations. Let's take a look at the world fashion highlights of last year.

New York designer Betsey Johnson recently celebrated 30 years in fashion. Her Winter 2008 collection, seen at New York fashion week in February, was one of her brightest yet.

In Milan in September, design duo D-Squared took a step back in time with their 70s-inspired collection.

The show kicked off with three models posing Angel-style before strutting their stuff in sexy black dresses.

They sported retro hairdos, flowing locks and center partings as they swept down the catwalk to funky tunes in belted suits, flared jeans, sunglasses and floppy hats.

And Hollywood came calling for Georges Chakra, who's been dressing the Middle East elite for years - but now has a growing clientele amongst the film world's A-List.

Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker and his wife, former actress and model Keisha Whitaker, took in Chakra's Paris couture show in July.

High glamor dominated the catwalk with models walking the runway clad in elaborately-detailed evening dresses. The color palette mainly consisted of bronze and silver, with bold splashes of purple, blue and red.
