Cultural exchanges across the Taiwan Straits have been ongoing with vigor recently. Lately came a high point, at the cross the straits cultural expo, in Xiamen, Fujian Province. It proved a mind opening event for artists and industry leaders from both sides of the straits.

This area of the exhibition is allocated to porcelain makers from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan. A DIY area set up by a Jingdezhen porcelain company stands opposite to where a Taiwan company produces porcelain artifacts. Different varieties of the porcelain art provide a wider perspective for those who came out to view the pieces. But the scope of the exhibition proved inspirational for those working inside the industry.

Liu Lin, staff member of Jingdezhen Porcelain Company, said, "Porcelain making has roughly a one-thousand-seven-hundred year history in our country. Taiwan and mainland porcelain making have the same roots. But each has different characteristics. So we came to learn from each other."

Besides the educational elements, promotion of products on both sides of the straits is another reason to attend. Taiwan porcelain makers are narrowly targeting the Fujian market, where the expo was held. But the creators of Taiwan porcelain are ultimately aiming at the entire mainland market.
