The 40 works on show were painted by 26 Inner Mongolian artists. Collectively these artists form the "Grassland School" of Chinese painting. All of the paintings are inspired by the grasslands and the lives of herdsmen who live there.

It's the first time the U.K. has seen an exhibition like this. The scale may not be large. But there're enough exemplary works to earn praise from those who attended, for cited distinctive style of the paintings.

China's ambassador to the UK Fu Ying told the opening ceremony, the exhibition aims to spread the exotic charm of Inner Mongolia to the UK.

She said she hoped more visitors from the British Isles will come to see the grasslands for themselves.

The exhibition is part of Inner Mongolian Cultural Week in the UK. The event has already featured two choral concerts in the British capital. The exhibition of paintings will run for two weeks.
