Author Jia Pingwa's latest novel "Qin Qiang" has won the seventh Mao Dun Literature Award. The award is among the most prestigious in Chinese literature.

The well-known author is the third from Shaanxi province to win the Mao Dun Literature Award. Lu Yao won the same award for "The Ordinary World", and Chen Zhongshi took the award for "Bai Luyuan". Like his fellows Lu and Chen, Jia Pingwa focused his story in his hometown. His novel "Qin Qiang" is a portrayal of the countryside during the massive transformation of society. Jia says it was a painstaking effort.

Qin Qiang is the twelfth novel by Jia Pingwa. There will be several editions, one for readers in Taiwan, one for Vietnamese. English and French translations are still in process.
