Lang Lang created the Lang Lang International Music Foundation, aiming to sharing his excitement for music with children.
Educational programs for music students play a critical role in the Foundation's mission. But the aim is much broader. Lang Lang wants to expose children of all ages to the world's greatest music, regardless of whether they are students of music.
The Foundation will fund private study for gifted students. There also are music outreach programs at schools and hospitals.

The foundation also intends to raise money to help victims of natural disasters.
Anne M Veneman, UNICEF executive director, said, "We really are today experiencing first hand the power of music and its ability to bring people together. It cuts across cultural and national divides, age, gender, creed. Music is really a coalescing force."
6-year old Charlie Liu, 8-year old Anna Larsen, and 9-year old Derek Wang are the first three children to receive scholarships from the foundation.
Lang Lang was appointed International Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund(UNICEF) in 2004.
