The focal point of the festival was a stage gala. It featured traditional performances - primary elements of local festivals for generations. Artists from the Miao, Yao, Zhuang and other ethnic groups showed their talents and their fabulous traditional costumes.

Maguan county is in southeastern part of Yunnan province. A dozen ethnic communities have lived there in harmony for thousands of years. Time-honored customs and traditional lifestyles have maintained until the present day. Maguan is especially famous for its local farmers' print pictures and its ancient music. In 2000, Maguan was honored by the Ministry of Culture, as the "Town of Folk Culture in China."

There are three major parts of the festival: stage performances; an art exhibition and a trade and business fair.
