2008 marks the 110th anniversary of the birth of Zhou Enlai, China's late premier and one of the country's most beloved political figures. An exhibition of photos, and handwriting by Zhou opened in Macao on Thursday. More than 500 people came for the opening ceremony.

The exhibition consists of six sections. It places on show 37 files and documents, and 170 photos of Zhou Enlai. The material dates from his early childhood. Macao residents come to pay their respects, standing close and taking careful note of details.

Organizers hope the show will help Macao's younger generation to know more about the struggle for China's national independence, and about the broader sweep of Chinese history. The exhibition has been shown previously in twenty provinces on the mainland.
The Macao showings are to continue till Monday. Admission is free.
