The Tujia people are one of China's ethnic minorities. Most of its people earn their livings from farming, fishing and forestry.

The time honoured traditions of the Tujia are to be preserved in a museum dedicated to their culture.

The Tujia have evolved a long and colourful cultural tradition. Dancing stands out. They dance at festivals celebrating, the harvest; they dance at religious rites meant to bring prosperity. They dance for many reasons.

Now, the time honoured traditions of the Tujia are to be preserved in a museum dedicated to their culture.

In Chongqing Municipality, construction is underway. This is the initial phase of a project with an investment of up to 20 million yuan. The design in based on an existing community of the Tujia. When complete, the museum will contain nearly 20 old-style stilt houses.

Exhibits will touch on all aspects of the Tujia culture. Construction is slated to be complete before the end of the year.
