The Weinstein Co. set up in London for the film's interior shots. Then the crew headed for the Thai capital of Bangkok. 300 construction workers recreated the mix of western and Chinese motifs that formed the character of Shanghai more than half a century ago.

On a tour of the set Saturday, the film's producers showed off their elaborate two-block set adding high praise for the local film industry.

The film "Shanghai" is about an American intelligence officer who investigates the death of his friend. The man died in Japanese-occupied Shanghai, months before the attack on Pearl Harbour.

Principal shooting on the movie is scheduled to end Aug.12. The Weinstein Co. aims for a Christmas release in the U.S.
