Special Report:   2008 Beijing Olympic Games

China's Olympic Committee and the National Olympic Committee of the U.A.E joined hands in a ceremony celebrating the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. The ceremony was held at China's Consulate-general in Dubai setting off a round of Olympic frenzy among local residents and overseas Chinese.

The deafening sounds of gongs and drums marked the start of the ceremony. Yangge, a form of traditional Chinese rural dance and a performance of acrobatics attracted much attention.

Many people traveled from all over the U.A.E to watch the show.

The National Olympic Committee of the U.A.E plans a series of cultural activities scheduled from July 17th to August 28th. These will include performances of gymnastics and taekwondo.

The NOC of the U.A.E. also says their athletes are busy preparing for the upcoming Beijing Games.
