The courtyard, in Kaixian County, covers about a third hectare. It faces east. There are 84 rooms, divided into 8 small enclosures. On the walls encircling the whole complex are exquisite wall paintings, depicting local scenes from life in bygone days. According to people who live in the area now painting were routinely whitewashed during the 1960's. About 20 years ago, someone cleaned them all off.

The courtyard is also distinguished by woodcarvings on door frames and windows. Judging from the designs and characters, archeologists believe the courtyard was built during the Qing Dynasty some 300 years ago.
