During this year's session, 41 states, which are parties to the World Heritage Convention, will recommend properties for inscription on the World Heritage list.

China has submitted two applications. One is on behalf of Mount Sanqingshan National Park in Jiangxi Province. The other is for Tulou, the unique residential architecture of Fujiang Province.

UNESCO's 1972 Convention on the Protection of the World's Cultural and Natural Heritage has 851 properties under its protection. The sites, in 141 countries and regions, are deemed to be of "outstanding universal value." China boasts 35 sites on the heritage list. That ranks it third, after Italy and Spain.
