Take a look at the hair styles. There's been a big change in China. Straight, black hair, traditionally considered the symbol of health and beauty, now is seen in popular styles heavily influenced by European and South Korean trends. On today's Style Watch, we take a look at how hair with style has become important in China.

Hair has held a symbolic meaning to the Chinese since ancient times. From the long braid to short hair, from sophisticated hair done up, to straight and dyed hair - hairstyles create a chronicle of the changes in the Chinese people.

Don't under estimate the power of the haircut. It's a new look that gives a personal uplift and a new image in the eyes of others. That's what a new hairstyle does.

At 1.75 meters tall, 48-year-old Zhou Hong doesn't feel confident of her old image. She wants to turn things around with a new hairstyle. Stylist Ding Fei takes the challenge.

Zhou musters her courage and steps out with her new look. Some people, like to keep the same hairdo all the time. One older Beijing resident, Qu Peng never changes his hair style. His short hair is his signature, his trademark. Qu comes to this salon - about once a week. He enjoys it, not just having his hair trimmed but also the friendly chats with the shop's owner.
