"I am Fine", is the word from Rene Liu. And that was the word at the January launch of her album by that name. Promotional events have been low-key. So is the music in the album. It's a collection of soft, mellow songs that serve up a creamy sense of nostalgia and sad romance. Lyrics are trimmed, terse and vigorous. Most are written with the broad perspective of love in mind. The album bring fans a step toward meeting the real Rene.

On the heels of the album launch, followed a multi-city tour -- "Sleepwalking with Rene". The dreamy adventure carried on from March 1st to April 30th. There were stops in Shanghai, Beijing and Nanjing among other cities. In keeping with the theme, Liu wears a stylish night gown in one of her costume changes. The starters for the concert, "the Original Place" and "Listen! Who's Singing" set audiences alight. The repertoire is comprised of her own classics as well as tactful covers of poplar chart toppers. Her encore songs sent the whole house into chorus.

The multi-talented singer is also branched into a booming film career. In 2008, she stars in Run Papa Run. Directed by Sylvia Chang, the film sees Rene Liu and her screen partner Louis Koo engaged in an emotional tangle as a lawyer and a gang leader. The film topped the box office in Hong Kong soon after its release. The film is due to premiere on the Chinese Mainland in the near future.

Liu's big screen success traces back to her very first role in the 1994 Taiwan movie "Siao Yu". The film earned her the Best actress award at the Asian Pacific Film Show and a slew of other film festivals in the region. Rene Liu's acting talent eventually attracted the attention of the TV crowd on the Chinese mainland. She was cast in the highly anticipated TV series of 2000 "April Rhapsody". The 20-episode production recounted the romance of celebrated Chinese scholar Xu Zhimo. The highly popular TV sitcom of the summer season "The Pink Ladies" offered Rene Liu the chance to play a markedly different character. She took on the role of a plain yet desperately marriage-minded kindergarten teacher.
