The New York Times called the Zagat Survey a travelers' necessity second only to the credit card. The Zagat Survey sets out to make things simple - a guide to exactly the right place to eat. The original New York based guide now is a familiar sight in 85 of the world's largest cities. And at last it has come to Shanghai, Hong Kong and Beijing.

The Zagat survey, the best selling book in New York every day of the year has come to Beijing. Behind the guide are Tim and Nina Zagat. Their's is a story of the rise of two Epicureans, who turned their food loving hobby into a substantial business empire.

The results of the first Beijing Survey are printed in pocket-size. More than 12 hundred participants voted on several criteria. The survey covers more than 200 of the city's finest restaurants - as well as about 200 hotels, nightspots, shops and sites. The guide has become established in 85 major cities around the world. But will it work in Beijing?

Tim Zagat, chief executive of Zagat Survey, said, "We have right now in Beijing 12 hundred and 44 people who eat out three or four times a week. They figure out they are regular in 200 and something restaurants. They are in the restaurants everyday. They are people who live here. Some of them are foreigners some are Chinese. Obviously this survey is conducted in English. The next survey is going to be done in Chinese. We hope many of the viewers will participate in Chinese in the future. "

The Zagat's promise the Chinese version of their guide will be FOR Chinese people, and will be based on surveys AMONG Chinese people.
