A Chinese youth delegation began its seven-day visit to Japan last weekend. The tour is at the invitation of the Japanese government.The delegation, touring Tokyo, Nagano and Nagoya, kicks off the China-Japan Friendly Exchange Year.

The 200-member Chinese delegation was warmly greeted on arrival at the renowned Waseda University.

Later, students from the university joined the delegation in a treasure-hunt. They worked in close cooperation in their pursuit, on a nearby mountain, despite the appearance of rain.

Professor Sonoda Shigeto of Waseda University became absorbed in China and Chinese culture when he was a student. He has been to China over 50 times.

Sonoda Shigeto, professor of Japan Waseda University, said, "Personally speaking, I am optimistic about the relationship between China and Japan, especially the future generations."
