As a bridge between the film industry and youth, the Beijing Student Film Festival has always received great attention from China's filmmakers. This year, the event presented 36 domestic productions over two weeks'. Now let's look at the big winners on this week's Countdown.

No. 5: Good Persons on the River's North

Good Persons On the River's North features performances by Xia Yu, Ma Yili, Hou Yong, and Miaopu. It is a romance, about a taxi driver, who helps a woman from the countryside find her lost money. The two fall in love. It's a story about truth, beauty, and love. The earthiness of the tale proved fascinating for the audience. All dialogues were delivered in the East China dialect.

No. 4: Five Bullets

Five Bullets was an adaptation from the novel Matter of Life and Death. The book won the prestigious Lu Xun Literature Award. The story tells of a prison guard who escorts a group of prisoners to court. Directed by Xiao Feng, the film features performances by Liu Peiqi, Jiang Wu, and Cao Ying. Putting ordinary people under extraordinary circumstances, the film presents a fascinating examination of human nature.

No.3: August the First

August the First was directed by Song Yeming of the People's Liberation Army Studio. It's about the Nanchang Uprising in 1927. The uprising was a landmark in the establishment of the People's Liberation Army. The military epic recounts this significant historic moment with vivid portrayals of historic characters. Hou Yong won the most popular actor honor for his performance.

No. 2: Messenger of Xiangbala

Messenger of Xiangbala tells the real life story of Wang Shunyong. He is a postman who has delivered letters to mountainous villages for decades. With the performances by eight non-professional actors, the film focuses on the dedication of this remarkable man. The movie was shot on location in the scenic mountains of the Liangchuan Prefecture of Sichuan province. At the festival, its director Yu Zhongping won the most popular director award.

No. 1: The Assembly

The Assembly is the latest by filmmaker Feng Xiaogang. During the New Year Season, it won both critical acclaim and box-office recognition. Recent months have seen the Chinese produced film, achieve smash hit openings in overseas markets. "The Assembly" , proved the biggest winner at the festival, bagging the honors for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor.
