"Mymyti's 2008" to hit theaters

"Mymyti's 2008", the opening film for the just concluded Beijing Student Film Festival, opens in Chinese theaters on May 9th. With a small budget, only three million yuan or 420 thousand US dollars, the film focuses on the Olympics and blends in the unique culture of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China.

The film is set in a Uygur community. It's near the Taklamakan Desert in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The villagers here love to play football. Twelve local teenagers assemble a football side called the "dream team". Each player has a nick name, after a wellknown sports star - Maradona, Zidane, Ronaldo and Chinese, Olympic gold medalist - hurdler Liu Xiang. The only female calls herself Sun Wen, former team leader of China's national women's football team. Mymyti, the lead character of the film makes the players a promise. David Tao set aflame, his concert in Beijing in March - with the rearranged version of his hit "Small Town Girl". Audiences were surprised at his talent for turning a ballad into a tune with a heavy metal beat. It's for sure Tao will bring some more surprises, with adaptations of his other hits, to the upcoming concert.
