Two hundred years of history resides in the old opera house in Zou Ma town in Chongqing municipality. The modern restoration of the old building marks a trend seen all across the country as Chinese people embrace old traditional art forms. The Zou Man theatre has just been reopened. Now audiences can gather to listen, with rapt attention to the re-telling of old folk legends.

The newly renovated opera house was built during the Qing Dynasty. Through its venerable life time it has seen two major renovations, the second being just completed. They reopened the opera house on Thursday. There was no admission charge.

A resident said, "We are very pleased to see this centuries old opera house reopen. Travellers will come here to appreciate its stateliness and elegance. We're very proud to live in Zou Ma. Our town has an ancient culture."
