Led Zepplin, the legendary rock group played again Monday for the first time in 19 years. The three surviving band members got together in London for a much-hyped and eagerly anticipated concert.
About 20 million people competed in an Internet lottery for 18,000 tickets, at London's '02 Arena. Tickets weren't cheap either at around 250 dollars each. The original date for the show had to be put back a month because lead guitarist Jimmy Page broke his finger.
Lucky recipients of tickets were joined by a handful of music celebrities: Roger Taylor from Queen, Noel Gallagher from Oasis, David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, Joe Elliot from Def Leppard and Marilyn Manson.
Paul Rogers said, "We both have a lot of Blues roots and I think there's a sense of longevity in the old guys singing that great blues. It kind of moves you and it still does today I guess."
Joe Elliot said, "Because they are real, they didn't come up through some bogus TV reality show. There is soul and heart that doesn't exist in today's music I think."
Jimmy Page, now 63; 61 year old John Paul Jones, and the baby of the group Robert Plant who's 59 are the original members of Led Zepplin. The fourth member of the group, drummer John Bohham died in 1980.
But his son Jason was there to play in his stead.
Jason Bonham was on loan for the evening from the rock group Foreigner. Fellow members of the Foreigner were happy the bands drummer got a chance to play the one off gig.
Mick Jones, foreigner, said, "It's because Jason's father was such a huge figure. This is his magic night for him. So we can hardly refuse him."
