International performing troupes are a highlight at the Shanghai Tourism Festival. Monday, a French circus troupe entertained hundreds of students from a local community. The performers are among a contingent of 20 diverse troupes which have come from around the world for the 21-day event.
Inside the Luwan Prep School, students dissolve into fits of laughter as they witness a performance by a circus troupe from France. Dressed in garish colors, these artists perform riveting stunts which also bring laugher. And once the music begins, even the most sedate students can't help moving their feet in rhythm.
A student said, "It's great! We are having so much fun!"
"We are very glad to see that the students are responding to our interactive show," said a performer.
More than twenty international troupes are heading deep into Shanghai local communities. Commencing Monday they will stage nearly a hundred open-air shows during the length of the tourism festival.
Away from the hoopla, there's a creativity fair. It's much quieter here but it has its own appeal for youngsters in Shanghai.
