Special Report: China Tibetan Culture WeekYou may not be familiar with the Russian Republic of Kalmykia. You're bound to become a little more familiar. A cultural delegation of Tibetan artists and religious figures has gone there. The presentation is "Tibetan Cultural Week", and Kalmykia is the current stop.

The opening ceremony, held in Elista, the capital of Kalmykia, is attended by high-ranking officials from both sides. "Tibetan Cultural Week" is part of the "Year of China in Russia", a much-hailed initiative of cultural diplomacy between the two countries.
Between September 12th and 15th, the city will witness a series of performances, art shows and symposiums dedicated to the history and culture of Tibet. Given the mysterious aura of Tibet, the event proves inspiring as well as informative.
A visitor said, "I feel that we have a lot in common. I don't think there is any barrier in terms of mutual understanding and communication."
