The 26th "Flying Apsaras Awards", China's answer to America's Emmys, wrapped up during the weekend at China Grand Theatre. The awards ceremony paid tribute to the highest achievements in the nation's television industry during the past two years.
The "Flying Apsaras Awards" are China's award of excellence in the TV industry. The awards, introduced by the State Administration for Radio, Film and TV have been held since 1980. The awards cover seven categories including long and short series, children's programs, TV opera's and dubbed-over programs.
Winning a "Flying Apsaras Award" depends on two criteria: ideological value and artistic merit.
Thus, TV programs dealing with history, heroic figures and household stories have an advantage.
This year's "Top Drama Awards" went to seven series. "Norman Bethune" remembers the Canadian doctor who took care of Chinese soldiers during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. "When We Were Young", tells about Chairman Mao Zedong's early years; "Drawing the Sword" was about a legendary general rising from the grassroots of Chinese society.
