The spirit of Elvis lives on and a little corner of Tokyo became transformed into Memphis Tennessee during the weekend.

Japanese fans of the King of Rock and Roll, twisted and gyrated on the streets of Harajuku, marking the 30th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley.

The focus was on Presley's early career, in the years after he burst on to the popular music scene and made it shake rattle and roll.

The official Japanese Elvis Presley Fan club counts itself as the world's second largest, next to the King's U.S. fan club.

But most of Presley's die-hard, now elderly fans did not attend the Tokyo event.
