Milan has commemorated the fashion designer Gianni Versace on the 10th anniversary of his murder. One of the events was a star-studded ballet performance at the La Scala opera house on Sunday.

The two-part ballet "Thank you, Gianni, with love." was written by choreographer Maurice Bejart. Around 1,500 guests attended the event. Celebrities including model Claudia Schiffer, actors Jessica Alba and Rupert Everett and pop singer Geri Halliwell were also among the guests.

Rupert Everett, actor, said, "A great deal of curiosity, so it's very nice remembering him and also to support the people who were left behind always is a great thing. I love Donatella and Allergra and the rest of the family, and Santo. Thank you."

Versace was gunned down at age 50 outside his oceanfront mansion in Miami beach in 1997. Versace's sexy and daring design style made him a favorite of rock singers, Hollywood stars and other celebrities.

Geri Halliwell, pop singer, said, "I think he was just the talent and he dressed the creative arts beautifully. So I am so honored to be there. I am just so proud to be a part of this occasion. It is a real honor to be here. It really is."

Other events to commemorate Versace's death include an exhibit of his sketches and theater costumes installed on Milan streets and the establishment of a scholarship in Versace's honor at the European Institute of Design in Milan.
