Part of the richness of cultural exchanges comes from the comparisons of the distinctive visions. In Beijing, two continents, five centuries of art, two kinds of visual idiom are joining together.

Belgian artist Luc Tuymans and Chinese curator Yu Hui initiate a dialogue between the art from the Europe's southern Low Countries and China.

The resulting exhibition is titled "The Forbidden Empire: Visions of the World by Chinese and Flemish Masters". The drawings and paintings are by, Van Eyck, Breughel, Rubens and others. They stand in contrast to works on paper and silk, based on Beijing's Forbidden City from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
