A rare glimpse into life on Earth more than a 100 million years ago is soon to open at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. Ancient fossil remains of some of the greatest beasts ever to roam our planet go on display at a free exhibition from early July to late August. Some of the exhibits never have been publicly seen before.

Museum workers take tender care in unpacking the remains of the ancient reptile monsters. The fossils are from the Zigong Dinosaur Museum in southern Sichuan Province. The region once was a prime habitat for dinosaurs, millions upon millions of years before the first hominid creatures stepped from the primeval forest. The new exhibit comprises 21 dinosaur fossils and eight complete skeletons. Most are considered national treasures. The largest skeleton is as tall as a three-story building.
