Marionette puppet performances are continuing to draw crowds and maintain a broad fan base in many parts of China. Since its invention 2,000 years ago - innovative techniques in puppet making have enabled the craft to remain appealing, even to modern-day audiences.

Stepping into the China Intangible Heritage Exhibition Hall, waves of laughter lead you to the marionettes room. All different types of these complex puppets are "performing" - from Fujian hand puppets to Shaanxi wand marionettes.
