For those who have lived long enough in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, Huang-Jue-Ping might ring a bell. Populated by old neighborhoods and deserted factory compounds, this area of the city seemed to have been trapped in a time capsule. But that was then.

This is the new look of "Huang-Jue-Ping". The 1.25-kilometer-long main street that runs through the neighborhood has been transformed into an open-air art corridor. The buildings and shops lining the street have had their grey facades painted - by graffiti artists. In fact, the street has been dubbed the "Graffiti Boulevard", with its edgy, quirky, post-industrial atmosphere.

Left behind by the rest of the city's development, this modern version of a face-life is definitely out-of-the-box. Some of the street's long-time residents might have found the sudden surge of street art a bit overwhelming. To ease the transition, curators and artists gather at the newly-opened "501 Art Gallery" - providing help in to those wanting to understand contemporary art.
