The ugly grey posts that hold up overpasses in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta are being turned into works of art by a group of local painters.

Perched on top of wooden ladders, the artists paint fish, flowers and other motifs using a rainbow of colors as traffic rushes past. The makeover is part of an effort led by the city government to increase aesthetic awareness and cleanliness. For the painters, it's a chance to showcase their work.

Indonesian officials are hoping that the decorated pillars will encourage other street artists to take more pride in their work and help beautify the city.
