An imposter in a Spider-Man suit scrambled up and down the stage as "Spider-Man III" had its world premiere in Tokyo. We can be sure of this because the real deal was there for all to see parading down the red carpet with his co-stars.

Not phazed by his phoney double, Tobey Maguire, the genuine arachnoid super hero, coolly accompanied co-star Kirstin Dunst as fans screamed in delight at a Monday's rain-soaked premiere.

Actor Tobey Maguire said, "It's a great event, we are having the world premiere here in Tokyo and it's fun, it's a big deal, so it's a lot of fun."

Actress Kirsten Dunst said, "Well I don't think we ever rest on our laurels with these films, we always keep striving to make them better. Sam has the biggest heart and knows that it is always a story about people and not just about special effects. Obviously everyone wants to make their money back because that is the business but from the heads of Sony all the way to. It's been such a passionate group."

Director Sam Raimi said, "No I love coming back to these films, it's a great honour to tell the story of Spider-Man. He is one of my heroes, he was my favourite hero as a kid, I loved the Spider-Man comic books. The moment I didn't feel that I love these films and that it wasn't an excellent opportunity to tell great stories, I'd be the wrong guy to direct it."

After finally settling down with Mary-Jane (Dunst) in "Spider-Man II", Peter Parker, Spider-Man's alter ego (Maguire) feels as though he has found balance in his crazy superhero life.

But he wakes one day to find his red and black suit has transformed into a darker more powerful suit, which gives him greater powers. But the new suit also exposes him to temptation and brings out the greed and arrogance in his personality. Eventually he sees the error of his ways, and sets out to right his wrongs, back in his old livery, once again.

On the way he must tackle two new villains with powers that threaten to outstrip his; Sandman played by Thomas Haden Church and Venom by Topher Grace.

The premiere in Tokyo comes three weeks ahead of it's U.S. release date.
