The hottest theatre tickets in 2006 were those for Lai Shengchuan's "Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land". The play had been moving audiences from tears to laughter and back again for over two decades before its mainland debut last year. Now it is to return to both Beijing and Shanghai in late April and early May, as part of the centenary celebrations for Chinese modern drama.

"Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land" had nine performances at the Capital Theater last November and went on to run for another 15 days from December to January at Beijing's PLA Theater. It's unique structure in which two productions collide, along with its thought provoking themes, helped it win the hearts of the capital's discriminating theater crowd.

The play was also unofficially voted "Best Stage Drama of 2006" by the media and netizens, and won its writer/director Lai Shengchuan the title of "Best Director".

A planned move to downtown Poly Theater in Beijing indicates the show is reaching a wider and wider audience. This is what experimental director Lai hoped for when he created the show.

Leads Huang Lei, Yuan Quan, Xie Na, He Jiong and Yu Entai, the lineup of last year's mainland version are teamed up again for the revival.

"Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land" will be at the Shanghai Grand Stage from April 23rd to April 26th and the Poly Theater, Beijing from May the 10th to 13th.
